There's a question I've been asking for two years. Who the fuck hates Canada??? I've been to the country many times, and the stereotypes are true. They are wonderful people. Kind, helpful, friendly, welcoming, and generous of spirit. Only one type of person hates Canadians, Trump's trash patriots.

I am completely gobsmacked. I did the grocery shopping today. Now we're completely broke until the end of next week. Let me say it again. Doing the standard grocery shopping (nothing special added) has completely busted us for the week. I think it's safe to say that our president is in the process of sending us all back into the Great Depression. How long until there are food lines? How long until it takes charity to feed people? The man gutted the Department of Agriculture. He's destroyed the FDA, and he's made it impossible for our farmers and ranchers to do their jobs and make enough money to survive until the next season. Prices are through the roof, but we're supposed to just sit there and smile while we eat this shit situation he's foisted upon us. Americans can soldier their way through a lot. I like to think we're deceptively tough people. But when it affects our ability to feed our children and have any pride in ourselves, we'll fight like animals. I only hope that when we do start fighting, it's against him and not each other.

Bully. Liar. Vain, nearly cartoon supervillain levels. Weaponized the Department of Justice. Established multiple concentration camps. Impeached twice. Destroyed the administrative state. Adjudicated sexual assaulter. Has his own Gestapo flooding American cities. 34 felony convictions. Serial adulterer. Openly lusts after his own daughter. Misogynist. Racist. Invaded a sovereign nation and is now plundering it. Stealing billions from the American people. Started a never-ending war with Iran. Openly solicits and receives bribes. Accused pedophile rapist. Mentioned in the Epstein Files at least 38,000 times.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the 45th and 47th President of The United States of America... the Republic is dead. Long live the Republic!

And now a brief writing update. I haven't been giving word counts for the last couple of days because I haven't actually been writing anything new. When I made the decision to tear back into my GI Joe manuscript and continue it, I didn't realize how much I would have to fix in the first two parts. I've got a couple more days to sift through and get everything straight before I start working on part three. I hope that, at that point, things move smoothly along. I can have it done within a week. It's going to be five parts in. That was always the plan. I'm structuring it like one of the GI Joe miniseries. So hopefully everybody will get to read the next part of GI Joe: Worlds Without End: The Return by the end of September.

I like to write a lot about the end of the world. The idea of a global apocalypse terrifies and captivates me. I enjoy thinking about new ways people can survive when modern society is gone and the benefits that come with it. The irony of all of this is that I would be one of the first people to die. If the actual cause of the apocalypse didn't kill me, the aftereffects would. If lack of medication didn't do me in, my poor physical state would. The best odds I'd have of surviving more than ninety days would be if a wasteland warlord made me his bride, or her husband. Either way, I'd be screwed. In conclusion, the zombies would eat me first.

August 25, 2026:I feel gut-punched by this. The world at large, and America in particular, lost one of humanity's finest. I was a fan of Dolly. I've been too shy to admit that. Dolly made me happy. I know there were times in her life when she stumbled, but she always strove to do the right thing. Her good works, gentle heart, and kind personality had a net positive effect on the world. She was a good person. America just lost one more of its few remaining shining lights. The world is a darker place without you, Dolly. August 26, 2026: That's two in a row. There is no more Tim Curry in our lives. Even after his stroke, it felt as if the man would live forever. He was one of my favorite character actors, and he never failed to entertain me in any of his roles. You'd think, knowing me, that my favorite role of his would be as Pennywise. But it's not. I believe his best performance was in a two-part Criminal Minds episode where he was a serial killer. He deserved an Emmy for that performance. You will be missed, sir.

When I was a kid, my favorite toys were the GI Joe figures and vehicles. Fast forward 40-plus years, and I am completely obsessed with the GI Joe Classified series. It's like they've sparked a spot in my childhood memories. I seriously can't stop buying them, although I keep it to a reasonable amount. Sometimes. It's an addiction, and I really should be pitied, not shamed.

My wife tells me that I laugh at some of the weirdest things. She says I laugh more at the little things happening in the background or in subplots than at the actual story of a movie or television show. And it's true. She's 100% right. Maybe it's because I grew up watching The Simpsons. Maybe it's because I spent my teenage years watching Mystery Science Theater 3000. Or maybe it's just the humor I was born with. The best example I can think of is the movie Idiocracy. Yeah, the movie's hysterical; I love it; it's one of my absolute favorites. But there's this subplot, and by sub I mean 34 layers under of an Army major who's obsessed with a pimp named Upgradde. Which he spells with 2DS for a double dip of that pimp life. Upgradde is mentioned in one scene and shows up for about five seconds at the end of the movie. But even thinking about him makes me want to laugh so hard I could pass out. See what I mean? I got a lot of weirdness in me.

Do you know what America needs? We need a new killer spider movie. The last one we had was Eight-Legged Freaks at the beginning of the century. When are we gonna have a New awful spider movie? When I say awful, I mean awful spiders, not that the movie's awful. Although I don't care if the movie was awful. Kingdom of the Spiders with Bill Shatner is one of my all-time favorite killer insect movies, along with the Michael Cain classic Swarm, and it is just a horrible, horrible film. I think we need a movie like another Empire of the Ants but with spiders. Really, we deserve another killer. And it has to star Ryan Reynolds.

If Gumby and his pals can do all the things we see them do on the screen, doesn't that make them akin to minor gods? Or maybe superheroes or villains, depending on how you see them? Of course, if they are supervillains, what keeps them from taking over the world? Are they related to golems, and how old are they? Could they predate modern humans? Did they kill the dinosaurs? Was the world once completely dominated by their savage kin? In conclusion, I've never liked Gumby and his sinister cohorts.

Some writing thoughts to close out the night. I have been cranking the machine as hard and as fast as I can in the last couple of weeks. It's been six years since I've been able to write more than a couple hundred words every two or three days. Hell, I went months without writing a single word of fiction. So now I'm building a war chest of unpublished stories just in case I fall back into the old rut. The truth is, I feel positive about my craft. More positive than I felt in a long time. Years before Stephen passed. I'm having nothing but fun putting words on the page. Here's to hoping things just get better and better.
