We Need A Hero
/Captain America is my hero, and I don't give a flying fig if he's fictional. He has inspired me to try to be the best person I can.
He's my hero, and to many, he's America's hero too.
Do you remember the scene near the end of Avengers: Endgame when Captain America stood alone in front of Thanos and his entire army?
All of the Avengers are out of commission, leaving a battered, but not broken, Cap alone to continue the fight. He's bloodied, his shield is broken on his arm, and as far as he is aware, there is zero backup coming.
What Does Cap do?
Steve Rogers tightens his broken shield and gets ready for his final battle. He knows he'll die in seconds, but he stands his ground. He refuses to yield to the darkness.
He never gives up, and he never gives in.
He looked at Thanos standing on that ridge, and he didn't blink.
Today is the 250th Birthday of the United States of America, and for the first time in decades, I am not observing it.
I love my country. I think of myself as a patriot., But I'm not blind. Even before Donald Trump all but declared himself God Emperor of America, we had a LOT of problems. But despite those problems, I always believed things were getting better and would continue to improve until the dream that was America was realized.
'
Instead, things got worse.
Much, much worse.
We stand on a precipice. If we don't dig in our heels and fight with everything we have, all that we love and cherish will be forever changed, and not in a good way either.
Trump is an evil madman, and he is our problem.
We need inspiration.
We need hope.
We need leadership.
We need Captain America.
And we don't need one Captain America. We need ten, one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand, one hundred... fuck, we need millions of Captain Americas.
We need every man and woman who truly believes in truth, justice, and equality, who believes in what America should be, to stand up, look Trump and his army of evil in the eye, and refuse to move.
Remember, Captain America isn't a sexy actor, and he isn't a sometimes hokey comic book character. He's an ideal we try to achieve.

"Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right.
This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe in, no matter the odds or the consequences.
When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world—'
No, you move.'"
