Twas The Night Before Christmas (1974)

This TV Special has everything: scary-looking peasants, a super-intelligent mouse boy, a terrifying Santa Claus, and a broken clock.

I did not make up or exaggerate anything you just read.

The gist of the show is that Santa gets really annoyed at a town because someone, our super-intelligent mouse boy, wrote a critical editorial of the fat man. In order to get the man in the red suit to unban the town, the scary peasant father is determined to fix the broken town clock as an enticement. But, alas, scary peasant father isn’t very mechanically inclined, so it’s up to genius mouse boy to save the day. After a way-too-catchy song and montage, he does. Santa unbans the town and graces it with his terrifying visage.

Seriously, he’s nightmare-inducing.

I learned two things in this special.

One, giant clocks are hard as hell to fix, unless you’re a mouse.

Two, Santa Claus is a thin-skinned asshole who can’t take a little criticism.
