Mystery Science Theater 3000 (321): Santa Claus Conquers The Martians

Clearly, based on the title of this movie, Santa leads an invasion of the red planet using reindeer cavalry, elf infantry, and yeti shock troops to overwhelm the Martian defenses. Santa then reigns for a thousand years as the new Emperor of Mars.

Sadly no.

If it weren’t for the terrific host segments and amazing riffing, this would be almost unwatchable.

Here are the basics. The Martian children are depressed and dreary drones. Their parents want to remedy this. So what do they do? Kidnap Santa and two meddling kids, bringing them back to Mars. Although they weren’t meddling at all, they were actually nice and helpful.

There’s a mean mustachioed Martian who hates fun, and a goofy Martian named Glorbo who seems to have brain damage. While Earth prepares for war, apparently, Santa is worth fighting and dying for. Santa works to bring Christmas to Mars, and hijinks ensue.

I can’t bring myself to write anymore, so I’ll jump to the end.

Mustache Martian is foiled, Glorbo becomes the Mars Santa, because old Claus is apparently franchising, and everyone lives happily ever after. I need a drink.
